SurveyWiki is using concepts of User groups, User rights and Namespaces to organise its content, actions possible to perform by user and access to the pages in opened and closed namespaces.

SurveyWiki Namespaces

Pages in SurveyWiki are organised in a few namespaces. Pages in other namespace than Main have in the browser's address text field their name in pattern similar to this page Help:SurveyWiki_Structure. This fact can be useful especially when creating new page to see if it is in correct namespace. See Page_create_and_edit for more details.
Pages in Main namespace does not have Main:Main_Page pattern. In their address is simply Main_Page.

Important namespaces in SurveyWiki are:

  • Main - for content pages. In context of SurveyWiki it is opened content namespace which can be read by everyone and edited by every logged in user.
  • Help - it is opened like Main namespace but is for help pages about SurveyWiki. Like this page.
  • Prysmian - namespace for topics related to Prysmian's projects like geodesy parameters or TSS scaleing factor. This namespace is closed and can be read and edited by users in Prysmian user or Administrators groups.
  • Admin - also close group for SurveyWiki admin related topics. It can be read and edit by users in Adminisrators group.

Being "closed" doesn't mean it is immune to any leaks. Please do not post in Prysmian or Admin namespaces any sensitive data!

Check MediaWiki help page for more information about Namespaces

User groups

MediaWiki comes with eight User groups by default but in SurveyWiki only a few of them are currently in use together with one additional group.

The most important default groups being used are:

  • * - everyone including not logged in. They can read open part of SurveyWiki but can't edit it.
  • Users - logged in users with the right to read and edit open part of SurveyWiki.
  • Administrators - users with right to perform certain admin actions. They can also read and edit close part of SurveyWiki.
  • Bureaucrats - users with right to assign or revoke other users to or from the group.

The other default groups being in use are: Autoconfirmed users and Interface administrators.

There is also custom user group Prysmian user - with the right to read and edit pages in Prysmian namespace.
